A moment of clarity.

Quick! I'm having a moment of clarity in the career department! It goes something like this:

When the people in the clinic have a squeaky hinge, they call a maintenence guy. When someone is unruly, they call Bob the security guy. Bob does not do security because it pays well or because there was a shortage of security people or because the Bureau of Labor said there was a good outlook for the future of security. Bob does security because he likes it. It's what he does best. In a way, it's what he is. Society needs security people, and Bob fills that need nicely, ensuring him a decent living.

Now. Your argument against doing what you really want to do, which is still somewhat undefined, is that the supply outsrips the demand. Let's say it's acting. There are already a lot of actors. True. But there are also already a lot of maintenence men and security men. The fact that there are already a lot of something is not sufficient arguement against having more. True, acting is perhaps one of the few professions that is hopelessly overstaffed. And success in acting is also as much a matter of luck and contacts as it is talent. But the entertainment field itself is broad and vast, and you could go in virtually any direction within that field and enjoy your career. Derek Schwartz is one of the very few people who has evinced any interest in your career. That alone indicates that he has put some thought into it, and at least has an opinion. He says you are talented and require only proper management to be successful. Randall Neal said the same thing. Derek also said that we should treat our creative people well, because there really aren't all that many of them.

It's what you do. You are a fun, entertaining person. It's what you are. Don't hide behind another career the rest of your life.
